6,986 ballot boxes delivered to Western Visayas – Comelec

ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has completed the delivery of 6,986 ballot boxes to Western Visayas for the May 13 midterm elections.

The ballot boxes are currently being kept in various secure warehouses, according to Comelec regional director Jose Nick Mendros.

These would be divided to the following provinces:

* Aklan – 560

* Antique – 710

* Capiz (plus Roxas City) – 745

* Guimaras – 46

* Iloilo (plus Iloilo City) – 2,572

* Negros Occidental (plus Bacolod City) – 2,353

Na-deliver na po sa mga warehouses, kumpleto na,” said Mendros.

From the warehouses, these would be distributed to various towns and cities by the first or second week of May.

The vote counting machines, ballots and other election paraphernalia would be delivered early next month, too.

The number of ballots to be delivered to each town or city would depend on the number of registered voters in them, said Mendros.

In remote areas, the delivery would be much earlier, said the Comelec director. He cited as example the upland barangays of Valderrama, Antique.

Some of these barangays are not accessible to motor vehicles and could only be reached by foot, according to Mendros.

For his part, Police Regional Office 6 director Police General John Bulalacao said they would be providing security to all Comelec personnel during the delivery./PN
