ILOILO – The municipal government of Concepcion imposed stiff fines against seven erring fishermen who risked gathering shrimps and squids without permit from the coastal town.

The fishermen were arrested in two separate operations of the Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force off the coast of Concepcion.

They were made to pay a compromise fine of P2,500 each.

“They agreed to a compromise fee with the municipal government to avoid detention,” said Police Officer 3 Charlie Asturias of the Bantay Dagat.

The arrested fishermen were given two choices – pay the compromise fine or face charges for violating local and national fisheries regulations.

Asturias warned the public that the Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force has increased its logistics and manpower to crackdown illegal fishers.

The task force remains vigilant in this aggressive and massive campaign against all forms of illegal fishing because there are still notorious repeat offenders, said Asturias.

The recent apprehensions of illegal fishers consisted of the following:

SHRIMP TRAWL

* M/BCA Yvonne owned / operated and piloted by Leony Betita of Talisay, Polopina, Concepcion, Iloilo

* M/BCA Lyhro James owned / operated by Marjorie Pacardo and piloted by Ramon Pacardo of Talisay, Polopina, Concepcion, Iloilo

* M/BCA unnamed owned / operated and piloted by Rey Dadivas of Banate, Iloilo.

These fishermen were fined for violating Section 9.06 Municipal ordinance No. 01-2008 (Engaging in fishing without a Municipal Permit/License)./PN
