BACOLOD City – Seven traffic enforcers in Silay City, Negros Occidental were dismissed from the service after testing positive for illegal drugs.

A total of 99 traffic enforcers participated in a random drug test on Monday, July 10, by the Silay City Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6.

The seven drug-positive enforcers were casual employees hired after Silay City’s Mayor Joedith Gallego stepped into office, while the others were hired during the previous administration.

The substances detected included shabu and marijuana.

Gallego said the surprise drug test was in response to last week’s drug bust, which resulted in the arrest of two city government job orders — 43-year-old Richard Valenzuela and 30-year-old Romel Nerio.

Recovered from the two were 13 grams of shabu worth P88,400 and drug paraphernalia.

Gallego warned city government employees not to engage in illegal drugs, as he would not hesitate to take appropriate measures if they are caught. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
