ILOILO City – A 7,000-square-meter government property in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district is being readied for a new Hall of Justice and prosecution complex, bringing key judicial and prosecutorial offices together in one location.
The Iloilo City Council held a special session on August 20, to act on measures authorizing Mayor Raisa Treñas to enter into agreements with the Supreme Court and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the development of the facilities.
The special session, convened upon Treñas’ request, tackled the proposed allocation and donation of portions of Lot 2011-A in Barangay San Pedro, covered by Transfer Certificate of Title No. T-095-2022004394.
Under the proposal, 4,000 square meters of the property will be allocated to the Supreme Court for the establishment of a new Hall of Justice.
The council tackled a resolution authorizing Treñas to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Supreme Court, represented by Court Administrator Ma. Theresa Dolores Gomez-Estoesta.
The mayor would also be authorized to sign a Deed of Donation transferring the designated property to the Supreme Court.
Another 3,000 square meters will be allocated to the DOJ for a prosecution complex that will house the Regional, Provincial and City Prosecutors’ Offices.
The council likewise deliberated on a measure authorizing Treñas to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the DOJ, represented by Justice Secretary Frederick A. Vida.
A separate authorization would allow the mayor to sign the Deed of Donation and Acceptance with the DOJ.
The proposed agreements are intended to formalize the city government’s partnerships with the Supreme Court and DOJ and pave the way for the development of a consolidated judicial and prosecution complex in Iloilo City.
The project is expected to establish a dedicated government hub for courts and prosecution offices in Barangay San Pedro, consolidating key components of the local justice system within the planned 7,000-square-meter site./PN
