BACOLOD City — Eight family members were injured Tuesday afternoon, January 20, after their van overshot the national highway in Purok Talos, Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.
The group of 18, which included eight minors, was reportedly heading home to Cadiz City from a 60th birthday celebration for the driver, identified as alias “Rod,” at a resort.
According to the Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, the accident occurred past 5 p.m. at a blind curve on Talos Road. Initial investigation revealed the vehicle’s brakes malfunctioned, causing the van to swerve into the opposite lane before falling into the roadside.
All eight victims, including the driver, were rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City. Don Salvador Benedicto police confirmed they were in stable condition as of this writing.
Authorities, meanwhile, reported that the vehicle was overloaded, citing a maximum capacity of only 14 passengers./PN
