ANTIQUE — An 80-year-old pedestrian died while undergoing treatment at a hospital after being sideswiped by a tricycle along the road in Barangay Lisub B, Anini-y, Antique.
Police identified the victim by his alias, “Mao,” a resident of Barangay Lisub B, while the tricycle driver was identified as alias “Sami,” a 73-year-old resident of Barangay Bayo Pequeño, Anini-y.
Police Lieutenant Niña Pagunsan, officer-in-charge of the Anini-y Municipal Police Station, said the victim was crossing the road to buy something when the passing tricycle accidentally sideswiped him at around 5:37 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27
Responders rushed the elderly victim to the San Joaquin Mother and Child Hospital in San Joaquin, Iloilo but attending physicians declared him dead at around 10 a.m. He succumbed to severe head and body injuries.
Anini-y police noted that both parties have reached an amicable settlement, with the tricycle driver pledging financial assistance to the victim’s family./PN
