BACOLOD City – A 94-year-old woman who was reportedly missing since the morning of October 20 was found dead beside a river in Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, later that day.
Police identified the victim as alias “Punay,” a widow and resident of Sitio Bandera, Barangay Refugio, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
According to the San Carlos City Police Station, authorities received a report from a concerned citizen at around 5:50 p.m. on October 20 after the elderly woman was found lying beside the river.
The police station’s duty investigator and alert team immediately proceeded to the area to verify the report and investigate the incident.
Upon arrival, responding officers found the woman unresponsive. An examination of her body revealed no visible injuries, police said.
Her remains were subsequently brought to a funeral home for proper disposition and postmortem examination.
Authorities have yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
