97 Palaro medalists to receive cash incentives

ILOILO – This June 20, 97 Palarong Pambansa 2017 medalists from this province will receive cash incentives from the provincial government.

This year’s Palaro was held in Antique from April 23 to 29.

Athletes from Iloilo harvested 40 golds, 22 silvers and 36 bronzes.

Western Visayas, where team Iloilo belonged, placed second to the National Capital Region in the overall Palaro 2017 medal tally with a total of 107 medals.

Gold medalists will receive P7,000 for each medal. Silver medalists will get P5,000 and bronze medalists will get P3,000.

Ilonggo athletes participated in the following sports events: athletics, arnis, billiards, boxing, gymnastics, table tennis, wushu, taekwondo, swimming, basketball, volleyball, futsal, sepak takraw, football, baseball, Paralympics, and pencak silat.

The cash incentives will come from the Provincial School Board.

The giving of cash incentives to medalists was institutionalized by virtue of an ordinance passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. It was devised to motivate athletes and recognize them for giving honor to the province.

A total of P685,998 is allotted for the athletes’ cash incentives while P312,000 is for the coaches and trainers. (Capitol News/PN)
