ROXAS City – Marugo Lake in Barangay San Antonio, Tapaz, Capiz is being eyed as an ecotourism destination.
A swimming pool is being built on a hilly portion surrounding the lake.
“We will put up water sports and wall climbing facilities and zip line,” Mayor Roberto Palomar told the press during the World Water Day (WWD) celebration in the town.
Four new floating cottages are currently serving excursionists and visitors.
The road from Barangay San Julian to Barangay San Antonio is being paved, too, to make Marugo Lake — about 3 kilometers away from the town proper — more accessible to the public.
Palomar said he obtained from Malacañang P15,000,050 for the road project when he attended a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte in January.
The National Irrigation Administration also turned over a P250,000 rubber boat to the local government during a WWD program to be used in maintaining cleanliness at the lake and in emergency response.
Meanwhile a people’s organization was formed in Barangay San Antonio to manage environmental resources, especially timberland areas, around Marugo Lake, said Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) head Valentin P. Talabero.
The Penro has identified the lake as a site for Sustainable Integrated Area Development Program.
Marugo Lake also serves as reservoir of irrigation water for rice farmers from four low-lying barangays. (PIA/PN)
