ILOILO City – Continuing what has become a yearly summer tradition, the Iloilo City Sports Council is set to hold a series of free sports clinics from April 17 to 23 across various venues around the city.
With the theme “Sa sports may medalya, sikwayon ang droga“, this year’s clinics will cover ten sports, namely: basketball, football, volleyball, taekwondo, arnis, wushu, chess, table tennis, tennis, and jiu-jitsu.
This yearly public private community partnership intends to introduce our young kids into sports and veer them away from harmful vices such as illegal drugs, shares city sports coordinator Romel “Jojo” Castro.
The weeklong affair will kick off with opening programs on April 17 (8:00 a.m.) at the eight venues reserved for this year’s festivities. Among them are the La Paz Plaza, Bo. Obrero Plaza, Jaro Plaza, Mandurriao Plaza, Arevalo Plaza, Molo Plaza, the Zamora Milleza Gym, and SM City Iloilo.
Registration forms and the schedule of clinics are now available at all barangay halls and public elementary schools in the city, as well as the Information Center of the Iloilo City Hall.
Castro adds that a top graduate in each sports discipline in every district will be rewarded for their perseverance.
The upcoming event is made possible through the efforts of Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and vice mayor Joe Espinosa III, chairman of the Iloilo City Sports Council./PN
