BACOLOD City – An Interior department official believes police officers can do better in handling drug evidence and filing charges against drug offenders.
Undersecretary for Public Safety Jesus V. Hinlo Jr. asked the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the fiscals’ offices to help train Philippine National Police (PNP) officers.
Most cases against drug offenders filed by PNP operatives get dismissed, Hinlo said during the recent City Peace and Order Council special meeting at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Superintendent Noel Polines, Operations and Plans Unit chief of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), agreed with Hinlo.
The BCPO is now conducting enhancement training on investigation, part of which is handling evidence under the “chain of evidence,” said Polines.
Meanwhile Hinlo asked the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to come up with an audio-visual presentation (AVP) on the life behind bars.
The AVP will be shown on cable television and during education tours in schools, he said.
“Show [the public] how hard it is [to be] inside the jail, suffering [and] away from family,” Hinlo said. The show will “forewarn the youth and all of us not to do criminal acts. Otherwise, we could end up behind bars.”
“Let us educate the children by showing them that they have to be good citizens for them to avoid [getting] all cramped up inside the jail,” he said./PN
