ILOILO City – Data that Panay News gathered showed three law schools in this city produced 114 new lawyers following the release of the 2016 Philippine Bar examination’s results on Wednesday.
But the number of new Ilonggo lawyers could still rise. While the schools were certain of the performance of their fresh law graduates in the 2016 Bar, they were still checking as of this writing how their re-takers fared.
The University of Iloilo (UI) College of Law has 29 2016 Bar passers, the University of San Agustin (USA) College of Law has 60, while the Central Philippine University College of Law has 25.
According to UI, it had 46 law graduates who took the 2016 Bar while USA had 69 Bar takers. CPU, on the other hand, had 50 law graduates who took the exam.
Atty. Pauline Grace Buñol Alfuente, dean of UI’s law school, told Panay News they were very happy of their graduates’ performance.
She said 12 of their 46 Bar examinees were fresh graduates and of these 12, 10 passed the exam on their first take, equivalent to 83 percent.
“This is a high passing percentage for our fresh law graduates,” said Alfuente.
Meanwhile, Atty. Jose Mari Benjamin Francisco Tirol, dean of the USA College of Law, said he was very happy with their new lawyers.
One of them placed No. 4 – Allana Mae Babayen-on who garnered a rating of 88.75 percent.
Tirol said he was not surprised that Babayen-on topped the Bar. The new lawyer showed dedication and the drive to succeed when she was a law student, he said.
Meanwhile, Atty. Zacarias Bedonia Jr., dean of CPU’s College of Law, said their Bar passing percentage for new graduates was 83.3 percent, “a good result and encouraging.”
The 2016 Bar results inspired the CPU to further enhance its law school, said Bedonia.
