BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental does not need cloud seeding for now, according to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
The Department of Agriculture is still assessing the situation of farmlands amid the hot and dry weather. It will inform capitol if cloud seeding is necessary, OPA head Atty. Japhet Masculino said in a radio interview.
The provincial government is also conducting its own assessment. It is currently collecting data from city and municipal agriculture offices, Masculino said.
But he said a request for cloud seeding has already been handed to the Agriculture department and the OPA is already preparing funds.
“Some plants, such as watermelons and mangoes, which are currently in season, don’t need rainwater, and [that] is the primary reason that cloud seeding remains under consideration,” Masculino said.
Moreover, many towns and component cities do not have problems with water supply from irrigation systems, he added./PN
