MANILA – Generika Ayala-A’s Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain and Petron Sprint 4T’s Cherry Rondina and Bernadeth Pons advanced to the finals of the 2017 Belo-Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball after beating their semifinal foes on Sunday.

The pair of Negrense Pons and Rondina reached the knockout finals after beating the tandem of Shiela Pineda and Frances Molina of Petron XCS, 21-17, 21-13, at the SM By the Bay in Pasay City.

“Ngayong nasa finals na kami, susubukan na naming ideretso hanggang sa maabot namin yung goal namin,” said Rondina, who settled for runner-up finish last year with Orendain for Foton.

Meanwhile, Ilongga Ceballos and Bacolodnon Orendain also did not have a hard time clinching the finals seat after scoring a straight-set triumph over Sta Lucia’s Danika Gendrauli and Ilongga Jacquelyn Estoquia.

The Cignal HD Spikers A of last year’s champion Jovelyn Gonzaga and Maica Morada failed to advance to the semifinals stage after being stunned by Gendrauli and Estoquia in the quarterfinals on Saturday evening.

The Guimaras-native Gonzaga and Morada will try to salvage at least a fifth place finish when it faces Cignal HD Spikers B’s Mylene Paat and Janine Marciano in the classification round right before the championship match on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Cignal HD pair of Edmar Bonono and Erickson Ramos scored a massive upset while Generika-Ayala duo of Anthony Arbastro and Calvin Sarte kept its perfect slate intact to book a finals duel in the men’s division.

The HD Spikers dominated Mike Abria and Edwin Tolentino of SM By the Bay, 21-9, 19-21, 15-8, while the Lifesavers clobbered Rey and Relan Taneo of University of Perpetual Help A, 21-10, 21-17, in the crossover semifinals./PN
