BACOLOD City – A native of Lambunao, Iloilo will soon officially sit as the new Negros Island Region police leader.
Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, named Chief Superintendent Edmund A. Gonzales as the new Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) acting director effective May 19, an official document released by the PRO-18 showed.
Gonzales will replace Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban — also a native of Iloilo — who was retiring on the 21st but leaving the post on the 19th.
Gumban has been the Negros Island Region police director since August 2016.
He confirmed Dela Rosa will grace the turnover of command on the 19th.
Gonzales, a native of Lambunao, Iloilo, was a member of the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986, said Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, PRO-18 spokesperson.
He was a director of the PNP Maritime Group prior to his designation in Negros.
Chief Superintendent Marcelo C. Morales will take over the Maritime Group as acting director also effective May 19.
Deputy Director General Archie Francisco Gamboa, chief of the PNP Directorial Staff, signed the Gonzales and Morales’ designation order.
Gumban earlier said he hopes his successor will continue to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling in Negros./PN
