BACOLOD City – A two-story Japanese retirement home was inaugurated on Friday at the Mambukal Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Sanko Mambukal Life Care Home, Inc. was also a caregiver-training center operated by the Sanko Group of Companies.
The company was leasing the 986-square meter capitol-owned lot — where the Governor’s Lodge used to stand — under a 25-year term that started on March 17, 2015, said resort manager Ellen Jalandoni.
Yearly the company shall pay P1.2 million.
Sanko country manager Hideaki Tanahashi said the retirement home can accommodate 10 Japanese elderly and 120 caregiver trainees.
The training, which includes basic Japanese caregiving and Japanese language, runs for six months on a “study now, pay later” basis.
Completing the training and passing the examination will give the students a chance to apply for jobs in Japan, Tanahashi said.
According to Tanahashi, they decided to put up the retirement home after finding out how nice the locals were when they stayed at the resort four years ago.
Japanese elderly people may start coming to the retirement home in August. They were still processing required documents, Tanahashi said.
He added that they were planning to expand the center to other sites in the Philippines but have not yet decided where exactly./PN
