BACOLOD City – Dengue cases from Jan. 1 to May 13 rose 103 percent. Four children also died of the disease.
The City Health Office (CHO) recorded 297 cases during the period, environmental sanitation head Dr. Grace Tan said on Wednesday.
In the same period in 2016, there were only 146 cases.
The casualties were all male children — a 10-year-old from Barangay Sum-ag, a 5-year-old from Singcang-Airport, an 8-year-old from Barangay Granada, and a 2-year-old from Barangay 14 — Tan said.
No deaths were recorded in the same period last year, she said.
To protect schoolchildren from dengue-carrying mosquitoes, the CHO is holding fogging in various public elementary and high schools as part of Brigada Eskwela, or the National School Maintenance Week, she said.
Among 61 barangays, Handumanan posted the highest number of dengue cases with 31, CHO records during the period showed.
Mansilingan followed with 25; Alijis and Mandalagan, 21 each; Estefania and Granada, 20 each; Villamonte, 19; Sum-ag, 18; Tangub, 17; Taculing, 16; Vista Alegre, 15; Banago, 12; Singcang-Airport, 11; Pahanocoy, eight; and Barangay 1, seven./PN
