The Cleveland Cavaliers had coasted to the Eastern Conference Finals and it’s now up to Boston to put a stop to a rampaging LeBron James. Yes, yes, LeBron, because take him away from the Cavaliers, they’d be lucky to survive the first round of the playoffs.
I’m not a fan of the man that Nike calls The King but I acknowledge the fact he is, in my opinion, the best player in the league at the moment. His second coming to Cleveland gave the franchise their first sporting championship in decades and it looks like they’re headed for a back-to-back. This will be LeBron’s seventh consecutive trip to the conference finals.
It’s now up to the Celtics to stop the Cavalier charge. Boston last championed the NBA with their 17th league title in 2008. And now the team wants to bring back the lost glory and is fighting, figuratively and literally, a towering battle against Cleveland.
Someway, somehow, LeBron and his crew will have their first playoff loss in the conference finals. I find it rather ridiculous for the Celts to not make things complicated for the Cavs. They will find ways to prevent Cleveland strutting and chest thumping their way to the finals.
This year’s Celtics are definitely the most underrated and ignored number one seed in the playoffs. Every basketball nut had Cleveland as a top pick but Boston topped the East by two games over the Cavs, thus earning homecourt advantage all throughout the playoffs.
Boston’s heart and soul is a sub-six footer averaging more than 25 points per game. Isaiah Thomas disregarded personal tragedy and a lost tooth by carrying the team on his 5-9 frame. Only three other players average in double figure scoring, Al Horford, Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley but Kelly Olynyk, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier can also put up some numbers on a good night.
I’m hoping for a repeat of the 2010 Eastern Conference semis where they bested Cleveland at the TD Garden in six games. A few days after that, LeBron announced that he would be taking his talents to South Beach.
The league hasn’t yet found a solution to a problem called LeBron so let’s cut the illusions of stopping him unless his hands are cuffed behind his back.
Many are conceding the EC crown to Cleveland but Boston could spoil the expectations. Let LeBron do his thing but stick like a leech to the four other Cavs on the floor and maybe, just maybe, we can have a new team as Eastern Conference champions./PN
