KALIBO, Aklan – A high-value illegal drug suspect was arrested in a buy-bust operation in this capital town on Friday.
The 53-year-old Gerry Tejada sold a plastic pack of suspected shabu to an undercover police officer for P1,000. Two more plastic packs containing the same substance were recovered from him.
Tejada, a fruit vendor from New Washington, was on his way to the Kalibo public market when the operation was staged around 9 a.m.
The suspect had been under surveillance for months, said Chief Inspector Frenzy Andrade, head of Team C of the Aklan police’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU).
According to Andrade, Tejada was a known supplier of illegal drugs in New Washington, Numancia and Kalibo.
Tejada was detained at the Kalibo police station pending the filing of charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against him.
Aside from the PDEU, officers from the Aklan Police Provincial Office, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Kalibo police station, Military Intelligence Group 6, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 helped in the operation. (PNA)
