ILOILO City – Sta. Clarita International School Primes is not taking CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights lightly when they face off in the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayor’s Cup – 1st Conference) high school category finals starting today.
The Primes advanced to the best-of-three championship by beating the Sun Yat Sen High School, 99-86, while the Silver Knights defeated the St. Roberts International Academy, 114-109.
In their lone elimination round encounter on May 25, the Primes scored an 81-77 victory over the Silver Knights behind the 19-point performance of star guard John Bryan Sajonia.
“Iba naman ang championship game kesa sa elimination round or kaya semifinals,” said Primes head coach Rodel Camacho. “If we are hungry for the championship, so are they. So we expect them to also give their all and we have to prepare for that.”
“Actually noong nakalaban namin ang CenterPhil (noong elimination round), medyo gigil pa iyong mga players ko. Iyong mga ganoong bagay ang dapat naming i-improve heading into this series,” Camacho added.
Aside from Sajonia, Camacho is also expected to bank on Giann Paul Nahine, Wilmer Dalumpines, Ralph Bajon, Frank Tono, Mark Jimenez, Robert Vegafria, Louwelle Cabasag, and Vince Jayme.
“Kaya sa mga ensayo namin, pinaghahandaan talaga namin iyong mga ball screen namin. Also adjustment sa depensa namin since we know na scorer din ang CenterPhil,” Camacho said.
The high school category champion will receive P10,000, while the second and third placers will get P8,000 and P5,000, respectively.
