ILOILO City – A drunk man who tried to hack a neighbor was shot by a police officer in Barangay Lanot, Roxas City.
The 53-year-old Josisimo Flojo was confined at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital for a gunshot wound on the right leg.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Monday Flojo, armed with a 25-inch long bolo, destroyed the fence of neighbor Danilo Benson, 65, and also threatened to hack the latter.
Flojo and Benson had a land dispute, said Superintendent Luther Lugo, Roxas City police chief.
Benson sought the police’s help. Members of Roxas City Police Office’s Public Safety Company came over.
Instead of surrendering, however, Flojo again attempted to hack Benson. Police Officer 1 Sunny Balgos wrestled the bolo from the suspect.
To immobilize the aggressive Flojo, Police Officer 1 Joe Mark Vigo shot the suspect on the right thigh.
“Based on our initial investigation, the police officers committed no lapses. They merely defended themselves from their attacker who was armed with a bolo,” said Lugo./PN
