WE NO longer have a genuine opposition. What we have are a bunch of losers who cannot accept the fact that their candidate, Mar “Daang Matuwid” Roxas, lost miserably to Rodrigo Duterte during the last presidential elections. This despite all the efforts of manipulating the Precinct Count Optical Scanners or PCOS machines’ results by a Commission on Elections beholden to their demi-god, then President BS Aquino.
What is happening to our country now is that this bunch of losers lumped together as the Liberal Party, or as moi prefers to call them, “devotees to the yellow ribbon”, do everything just for the sake of opposing President Rodrigo Duterte regardless of the outcome to the country and the Filipino people.
The country is now under attack by terrorists. The ISIS-wannabe Maute group or as the Moro National Liberation Front prefers to call them, ISIS fan club, has invaded Marawi City. And as moi is writing this column, heavy fighting is still going on between them and government forces with casualties mounting on both sides, including the innocent natives of Marawi.
It is situations like this that unite citizens of civilized countries to rally to support the republic. The Philippines is no exception as majority of the natives have come together to support our soldiers and President Rodrigo Duterte who placed the entire island of Mindanao under martial law to save the republic from becoming another Syria or Libya. Well, except for the “yellow ribbon devotees” who, from day one of the Marawi invasion, did nothing but opposed and criticized President Duterte every step of the way. Most of these criticisms are bordering to, if not downright, treason.
It goes to the point of whether they are just plain stupid with absolutely no awareness of the situation or they just hate President Rodrigo Duterte.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson Wednesday last week slammed his colleagues who continue to object to the declaration of martial law, saying either they do not understand the security threat in Mindanao or they are just opposed to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Our colleagues who still oppose the martial law proclamation either do not understand the gravity of the security threat posed by the rebellion in the south, or they are simply opposed to anything that President Duterte does or acts on.”
According to a GMA NewsOnline June 7 report:
“The senator said this following the release of a video footage of a secret meeting of insurgents led by Isnilon Hapilon as they planned the attack on Marawi City.
The footage, obtained exclusively by The Associated Press, was shown to senators when they held an executive caucus with security officials on the declaration of martial law last week, said Lacson.
“‘This video footage, among other disclosures in the security briefing made by top security officials of the Duterte administration during our executive caucus, is what made me decide to vote in favor of the martial law proclamation in Mindanao,’ Lacson said.”
The good senator was quite diplomatic when he released that statement. All he really wanted to say was that you must be completely stupid or you simply hate President Duterte.
Meanwhile in an interview on a program hosted by Daniel Razon over UNTV, Sen. Rissa Hontiveros epitomized what Senator Lacson was saying.
The senator said Maute’s actions in Marawi were not considered rebellion and invasion, which are the only two events that will allow a president to declare martial law.
She said a rebellion meant a section of the Philippines, like a city or the residents of a territory of the country for example, pulled away from the government.
“That was not the case eh… Strictly speaking, hindi iyan rebellion ng Marawi City at ng Marawi residents,” Hontiveros said of Maute’s raising of ISIS flag in different parts of the city.
“Hindi rin siya invasion. Hindi naman tulad sa Zamboanga City noon na may siege talaga, na may puwersang armado…Iyon ang armadong puwersa na pumasok sa labas at pumasok sa isang lugar na may intensyong pumasok, sakupin siya, kontrolin siya at gumanap ng kaharasan,” she added.
As the host explained that the Marawi case was just the same, Hontiveros replied: “Hindi po. Strictly speaking, not according to the definition of the Constitution.”
Rissa Hontiveros’ faux pas confirms her bias and ignorance simultaneously as a legislator. She is completely ignorant of the fact that the Constitution never defined the crimes of rebellion and insurrection; the Revised Penal Code does.
And she has her own definition of rebellion, hair splitting to justify her opposition to the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.
