ROXAS City – Vendors will no longer be allowed on sidewalks and streets in this city.
For the safety and convenience of the public, the city government has decided to regulate the use of sidewalks by removing illegal vendors.
“It is high time to clear the sidewalks of illegal structures and vendors. [Also included are] illegally parked vehicles. The sidewalk belongs to the pedestrians and we cannot allow these violators to steal it away from them,” Mayor Angel Alan Celino said in an interview.
Celino vowed to execute the ordinance with an “iron hand” akin to President Rodrigo Duterte’s style.
Celino requested the city council through Councilor Powell del Rosario to create an ordinance that will impose order and discipline on the use of sidewalks.
City Administrator Gilbert Tan, for his part, had observed how illegal vendors, who occupy almost half of the streets, create heavy traffic.
Vehicles are likewise indiscriminately parked on the streets, he added.
The ordinance also prohibits bathing, washing of clothes, repairing vehicles, and drying of products, on the streets.
However, the ordinance stated that temporary permits may be issued for the use of sidewalks during special occasions like fiesta.
Owners, lessees, and occupants of residential and business establishments are also required to place their garbage in sanitary bins inside their premises and just bring it out once the garbage collector passes by.
Violators will be fined 3,000 for first offense, 4,000 for second offense, and 5,000 and cancellation of business permit for third offense./PN
