MANILA – Jenel Lausa has set his eyes on the prize.
The Ilonggo mixed martial arts fighter faces Naoki Inoue in the Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) Fight Night on Sept. 23 at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
Also a professional boxer, Lausa – who split his first two matches – will be fighting his third in the MMA promotions.
The Concepcion, Iloilo native debuted in UFC with a unanimous-decision victory over Chinese Yao Zhikui last Nov. 27 in Australia. He lost his second match to Russian Magomed Bibulatov on April 8 in New York.
The 28-year-old Lausa said he will prepare hard for his Japan match against Inuoe, younger sibling of Invicta FC fighter Mizuki Inoue.
“I know I will be facing a tough opponent so I decided to start my (training) camp early so I can get my groove back. I am also carefully studying his (Naoki Inoue) fighting style,” said the former Pacific Xtreme Combat champ.
Lausa has a 7-3-0 win-loss-draw record, and 1-1 under UFC. He has also won five straight MMA matches before his split decision defeat to Bibulatov.
But Inoue has an unblemished 11-0-0 slate, and 1-0 in UFC. He won his debut match in the organization against Filipino Carls John de Tomas.
The Lausa-Inoue card is a co-main event of the clash between former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Ovince St.-Preux./PN
