BACOLOD City – The city government wants to make Bacolod an “animal-friendly city.”
Councilors Bartolome Orola and Wilson Gamboa Jr. conducted a public hearing last week to discuss the proposed Bacolod Animal Welfare Ordinance.
City Veterinarian Ma. Agueda de la Torre and City Pound head Julius Galve also attended the public hearing.
Improvement of the City Pound’s facilities, lack of trained personnel, the city’s anti-rabies program, and the operations between animal lover groups and stakeholders were discussed.
Four groups vowed to support the proposal, Gamboa said.
They include the Bacolod Aspin Rescue Kennel, the Island Rescue Organization – Bacolod, the Bacolod Dog Lovers Organization, and the Community Animal Rescue Efforts, Inc. Bacolod (CARE-Bacolod).
CARE-Bacolod also urged the public to stop animal cruelty by adopting them as pets./PN
