MANILA – Bali Pure Water Defenders snapped its losing skid in the 2017 Premier V-League Open Conference after a 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20 win over Adamson University Lady Falcons the other night at the San Juan Arena.
Jerrilli Malabanan led the way with 15 points for the Reinforced Conference runner-up Water Defenders, which snapped its two-game losing skid to improve to 3-3 win-loss mark.
Gretchel Soltones added 14 markers while Risa Sato contributed 10 points for the Water Defenders.
The Defenders hopes to clinch a semifinals seat when it faces defending champion Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors tomorrow.
The Lady Falcons kept the game close in the opening set. It only trailed 19-18 but the Water Defenders relied on Malabanan and Soltones for the last six points to close out the set.
It was a seesaw battle in the second set with the Lady Falcons opening a 5-1 lead before the Water Defenders took a 16-9 edge. However, the set still came down the wire before Lady Falcons committed an error to hand the set to Water Defenders.
After dropping the third set, the Water Defenders came back strong in the fourth set as it broke away from a tight match for a 22-16 lead. Soltones then ended the match with consecutive points.
“Ilang laro na ‘di maganda nilalaro ng mga bata. Nahihirapan din sila kasi, ‘di kami nakaka-ensayo nang maayos,” said Water Defenders head coach Roger Gorayeb. “Yung iba kasi sa kanila may pasok na kaya minsan exhausted na.”
Jessica Galanza top-scored with 18 points, while newcomer Chiara Permentilla added 15 markers for the Lady Falcons, which was booted out from Final Four contention with the defeat./PN
