BACOLOD City – With many village chiefs linked to the drug trade, the National Executive Board of the Liga ng mga Barangay will schedule a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte today at 9 a.m.
Liga ng mga Barangay – Bacolod president Noli Villarosa said the National Executive Board is seeking clarifications.
Villarosa claimed they were bothered that “47 percent” of village chiefs were allegedly involved in the drug trade either as protector or user.
Out of 42,360 barangay captains in the country, 50 percent are engaged in illegal activities, he further claimed.
The National Executive Board of the Liga ng mga Barangay, with its regional chapter presidents, will ask Duterte to identify those who compose the 47 percent so that legal actions may be taken against them, Villarosa said.
The board will also meet with senators Aquilino Pimentel III, Juan Edgardo Angara, Grace Poe, Francis Escudero, and Richard Gordon to discuss the proposed postponement of the barangay elections./PN
