AFTER hosting the finals last year, Iloilo City will host this year one of the 16 qualifying legs of the 41st National Milo Marathon.
Leg 11 of the prestigious marathon will be held at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district on Oct. 8, according to Milo Philippines Sports executive Robbie de Vera.
During the National Milo Marathon Finals last year at the Iloilo Sports Complex, Mary Joy Tabal was crowned the women’s champion while Jason Agravante of Bacolod City won the men’s title.
“Iloilo City served as a great host of the National Milo Marathon Finals last year,” De Vera said. “We are thankful to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Vice Mayor (Jose) Joe Espinosa (III) for agreeing to host a qualifying race this year.”
The first three qualifying legs were already in the books. Negrense Julius Sermona and Christabel Martes topped the Urdaneta leg; Reynaldo Pascua and Mercy Taypoc, the Laoag leg; and Rafael Pescos and Cinderella Lorenzo, the Manila leg.
The rest of the qualifying races will be in Angeles on Aug. 6, Tarlac on Aug. 13, Naga on Aug. 27, Lucena on Sept. 3, Lipa on Sept. 10, Tagbilaran on Sept. 24, Roxas on Oct. 1, General Santos on Oct. 15, Davao on Oct. 22, Butuan on Nov. 12, and Cagayan de Oro on Nov. 19.
The 41st National Finals will be on Dec. 3 in Cebu City. This will mark the second time that Milo stages the concluding event in Visayas.
The Milo Marathon will also resume its “Help Give Shoes” program. Last year, it donated brand-new pairs of running shoes to around 70,000 children./PN
