MANILA – At 1:28 p.m. yesterday a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck southwest of Nasugbu, Batangas.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said aftershocks were expected following the temblor.
The quake hit 18 kilometers off Nasugbu at a depth of 177 kilometers.
It was felt in parts of Metro Manila, prompting several offices to evacuate their employees.
Scared people rushed out of buildings and houses but Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the quake was “not that strong.”
It was not expected to trigger the movement of other faults, he added.
“We mostly don’t expect that this will trigger movements of other faults. Independently, however, the faults around Luzon can move, like the West Valley Fault,” said Solidum.
