Beach guards and lifeguards were told by Malay mayor Ceciron Cawaling to implement local ordinances strictly.
“This is for environmental protection and public safety,” stressed Cawaling during the regular monthly meeting of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on Aug. 10.
Ordinances on littering, smoking, stationary vendors, and sand extraction were discussed.
“As tourism frontliners, beach guards and lifeguards play a vital role in ensuring that rules are followed especially by tourists,” Cawaling said.
The monthly meeting aims to prepare the local enforcers for their duties, said MDRRMO officer II Catherine Fulgencio.
Currently, Malay has 30 beach guards, eight lifeguards, and five MDRRMO nurses.
Fulgencio said there will be additional personnel especially now that they are on their renewal period. (PNA)
