BACOLOD City – Councilor Caesar Distrito asked the Bacolod City Police Office to confirm if a drug group was involved in the shooting of dismissed police officer Federico Nicolas.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution ordering an investigation on the shooting which also injured Police Officer 1 Wilmer Bansag and his 17-year-old son on Aug. 19.
Initial investigation showed that Nicolas was the target of the gunmen who repeatedly fired at the victims on board a car around 9:30 p.m. in Barangay Bata.
Nicolas was dismissed from the BCPO for being absent without leave and had been a high-value target of the local police.
However, Councilor Caesar Distrito – author of the resolution – said the BCPO must confirm the drug group’s involvement in the shooting.
Distrito has urged the BCPO to “give the public a clear explanation” in the wake of the incident.
“Such incident is very alarming. A thorough investigation must be done in order to identify those who are involved,” Distrito said.
He added, “The incident happened in a populated area. It could mean the perpetrators of the crime can kill anyone in the city.”/PN
