BACOLOD City – The first kidney transplant at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital was a success.

The operation – which was held yesterday – was within the expected time period of two to four hours, surgeon Alexander Kent Achurra said.

The 39 ¬year-old patient, who was not named, was able to produce an adequate amount of urine after the operation, said Achurra.

The kidney donor was a 42-year-old woman, he added.

The transplant did not charge the patient with the doctors’ professional fees, said hospital chief Dr. Julius Drilon.

“The successful operation has been a very emotional one for our doctors. They were waiting to perform the transplant for several years,” Drilon added./PN
