MANILA – A 23-man Philippine Azkals lineup will face Yemen at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City on Sept. 5 in the third match of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers.
Composing the squad were Phil and James Younghusband, Misagh Bahadoran, Carlos de Murga, Patrick Deyto, Neil Etheridge, Joshua Grommen, Kevin Ingreso, and Hikaru Minegishi.
The Philippine team will also comprise Jim Muñoz, Paul Mulders, Manuel Ott, Mike Ott, Stephen Palla, Iain Ramsay, Patrick Reichelt, Simone Rota, Dennis Villanueva, and Luke Woodland.
New faces included Nicholas O’Donnell, Dylan De Bruycker, Harry Foll, and Tyler Matas, who were inserted in lieu of the suspended Daisuke Sato and injured Javier Patino and Amani Aguinaldo.
The Bacolod City match in the qualifying event succeeds the Azkals’ 4-1 victory over Nepal on March 28 and 4-3 escape of Tajikistan on June 13.
Azkals, mentored by Thomas Dooley, aims to end up at least in the top two of its group to advance to the next round of the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Asia in 2019 to be held in Jordan.
The AFC Asian Cup qualification round shall follow a home-and-away format, with the top two teams advancing to the tournament proper. There shall be six game dates for the Azkals in this phase of the competition./PN
