MANILA – TNT KaTropa banked on its hot outside shooting to score 117-96 against Blackwater Elite in the Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup yesterday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Import Glen Rice Jr. led the way with 31 points for KaTropa, which halted Blackwater’s three-game winning run moved up to a 4-2 win-loss record to tie with Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Kelly Williams chipped in with 21 markers while Rudy Lingganay and Jayson Castro contributed 11 points apiece while playing without injured Ryan Garcia.
TNT jumped to an early 15-4 start on triples by Rice, Ranidel de Ocampo and Roger Pogoy. Blackwater rallied to within 22-23 but KaTropa widened the lead at the end of period on hits by Williams.
KaTropa created distance anew in the second quarter on conversions by Rice and Castro for a 41-27 edge. Elite trimmed the deficit to 10 but TNT quickly answered on consecutive triples by Lingganay for a 62-40 halftime lead.
TNT continued to dominate on the offensive on hits by Rice and Williams en route to building its largest lead – 27 points – on baskets by Lingganay and Harvey Carey.
“We really prepared hard for this game because we know that Blackwater is at their best right now,” said TNT head coach Nash Racela. “It’s not an easy win since their locals are playing well, also the leadership of Henry (Walker).”
Walker top-scored with 33 points while John Paul Erram and Michael DiGregorio had 18 and 12 points, respectively, for Elite, which slid to 3-4./PN
