ASIDE from the marathon itself, a cheerdance competition will also be part of the Iloilo qualifying leg of the 41st National Milo Marathon on Oct. 8 at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Rommel Castro, head of the Iloilo City government’s Sports Development Division, said the cheerdance competition will be divided into three divisions – elementary, secondary and college.
Jalandoni Memorial Elementary School, Cubay Elementary School and F. Java Kelly Elementary School are participating in the elementary division, while the college division will have University of Iloilo and West Visayas State University.
Joining the secondary division are Iloilo City National High School, Mandurriao National High School and Jaro National High School.
After the staging of the national finals in Iloilo City last year, the city was again chosen host one of the 16 qualifying legs of the Milo Marathon.
The rest of the qualifying races will be in Tagbilaran on Sept. 24, Roxas on Oct. 1, General Santos on Oct. 15, Davao on Oct. 22, Butuan on Nov. 12, and Cagayan de Oro on Nov. 19.
This year’s finals will be held on Dec. 3 in Cebu City – the second time Milo Marathon is staging the finals in Visayas.
In last year’s finals, Mary Joy Tabal was crowned the women’s champion while Jason Agravante of Bacolod City won the men’s title./PN
