ILOILO City – The Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI) will hold a lighted float competition in celebration of the 50th Dinagyang Festival in January 2018.
IDFI chairman Ramon Cua Locsin said this is something new to look forward to.
“This will look like a parade of lights, so we will invite 50 companies, schools and civic organizations among others to participate,” said Locsin.
This will also serve as a “promotion of their companies” because they will be allowed to put their logos on their floats, he added.
IDFI has yet to set the exact date of the contest, though it will be held at 7 p.m. to give emphasis to the lighted floats.
IDFI invited Banaag Festival of the municipality of Anilao, Iloilo to join.
Locsin said IDFI will give P200,000 to the grand winner, P150,000 to the first runner-up and P100,000 to the second runner-up.
IDFI is in the process of conceptualizing other activities for Dinagyang’s golden anniversary.
Locsin said they eye to hold international cultural shows where festivals from other countries will be performing.
To avoid more expenses among the competing tribes, IDFI decided to do away with the “Pamukaw” in December.
“Based on our observation last year, the tribes were really putting too much effort and bought shoes and costumes for the Pamukaw, so we decided to just have an opening salvo for the 2018 festival two weeks prior to the highlights,” said Locsin.
