ILOILO City – An administrative complaint for grave misconduct was filed against a police officer accused of poking a gun at a town councilor in Barangay Dunglaan, Anilao, Iloilo.
The complaint against Police Officer 1 Joeno Aquilasca was lodged at the National Police Commission (Napolcom) Region 6 on Sept. 25.
Anilao Sangguniang Bayan member Eduardo Jorque, the complainant, filed a few days ago a separate criminal complaint against Aquilasca for grave threats at the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Aquilasca, a resident of Barangay Palaypay, Anilao, is assigned at the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Holding and Accounting Office.
“The complainant rejected any settlement. Grave misconduct in the police service comes with the penalty of dismissal from the service,” said Napolcom-6 spokesperson Allen Camering.
On Sept. 16, Aquilasca was detained at the Anilao police station following a gun-toting incident that, according to Senior Inspector Jess Baylon, Anilao police chief, happened around 11 p.m.
Aquilasca, along with Rommel Sumaylo and Raffy Lagamon – all residents of Barangay Palaypay, Anilao – mauled a group of persons they suspected of pelting their vehicle in Barangay Dunglaan, said Baylon.
Jorque tried to stop the mauling, said Baylon, but got Aquilasca’s ire.
After Aquilasca and his companions left, Jorque alerted the Anilao police station.
Baylon said his men were able to find Aquilasca. The cop turned over his service firearm – a .9mm pistol – to the Anilao police.
The Anilao police also later raided the house of Lagamon on the strength of a search warrant from the Regional Trial Court. Cops recovered 11 sachets of shabu, an M16 armalite rifle and a grenade.
Sumayo, who was at Lagamon’s house, yielded a .9mm pistol and a .22 revolver.
The two were taken to the Anilao police station, too.
