SAN JOSE, Antique – The National Food Authority (NFA) in the province is now open to accommodate farmers’ produce as the rice harvest season reaches its peak this month, according to NFA provincial manager Frisco Canoy.

The NFA buys clean and dry palay at P17 per kilogram (kg) on top of the P.2 per kg drying incentive, P.2 to P.5 per kg distance delivery incentive and P.3 per kg cooperative development incentive, which is exclusive for NFA-accredited farmer organizations, said NFA information officer Lorelyn Bayog.

The NFA accepts custom hire drying for wet palay, with above 18 percent moisture content, with a minimum capacity of 100 bags.

Farmes can directly sell their produce to the NFA provincial office in Barangay San Fernando in this capital town or in the NFA satellite office in Barangay Caridad, Culasi, Antique.

Farmers who are non-NFA passbook holders can sell at most 200 bags of their produce to the NFA only once. Succeeding transactions will require them to secure an NFA passbook.

Farmers can secure their passbook by filling out an application form at the NFA provincial office. They are advised to bring a valid identification card.

The NFA said it is committed to stabilize consumer price levels and ensure adequate and continuous rice supply.

The NFA noted that its palay procurement program will help establish manageable buffer stock for emergencies, such as calamities, and give farmers a fair return of their production investments, especially that the price of rice in the market is relatively low. (PIA/PN)
