KALIBO, Aklan – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will formulate a comprehensive development plan to deter poverty and address other challenges in the province, said new TESDA-Aklan director Joel Villagracia.

TESDA, an agency that promotes technical-vocational programs, will come up with its provincial plan that will include strategies and directions for its programs next year.

The 56-year-old Villagracia, of Guimbal, Iloilo, assured TESDA partners and local government units that he will include in the plan the target programs and services implemented by then TESDA-Aklan director Julius Sol Jamero.

Jamero, assumed Villagracia’s position in TESDA-Negros Occidental.

Villgracia said TESDA will continue the skills mapping survey on the demand on skills training programs and services in the province for students who plan to take technical-vocational courses next year.

Villagracia will also coordinate with the heads of training institutions and the Association of TVET Schools in Aklan, which are partners of TESDA in program implementation.

Currently, TESDA-Aklan has 22 public and private school providers, 71 registered programs and six accredited assessment centers.

The centers and schools offer programs and short courses on carpentry, plumbing, welding and automotive servicing, health services, medical transcription,  security service, seafarer-stewarding/catering, bartending, housekeeping, commercial cooking, food and beverage services, bread and pastry production, and caregiving, among others.

Villagracia also worked as the administrator of TESDA Regional Training Center in Talisay, Negros Occidental. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
