ILOILO City – A ready-to-wear (RTW) Muslim trader, his wife and five-year-old son were repeatedly hit with a hammer inside their kiosk at the Mandurriao public plaza before dawn yesterday.
The 29-year-old Muamar Ditingki and son Mohamed died of severe head injuries.
Ditingki’s wife Asnifah, 21, was fighting for survival as of this writing at the Western Visayas Medical Center.
The Ditingkis were residents of Zarraga, Iloilo.
Hours after the attack, a suspect was arrested – 19-year-old Mark Ganava of Barangay Mambagaton, Himamaylan, Negros Occidental. He was taken to the Mandurriao police station.
Ganava denied attacking the Ditingkis but witnesses claimed to have seen him entering the victims’ kiosk around 3:25 a.m., said Senior Inspector Juvy Navales of the Mandurriao police.
Policemen recovered the hammer at the kiosk. Nearby, they found a bloodstained shirt.
“The attacker appeared so angry at the victims,” said Navales.
Ganava claimed he was not at the plaza at the time of the crime’s commission./PN
