ILOILO City – This city’s crime rate dropped to 66.16 percent, according to Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, director of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
There were only 45 crime incidents from Oct. 16 to 22, 2017 – significantly lower than the 133 incidents recorded last year from Oct. 17 to 23.
“The decrease in theft and physical injury cases under index crimes contributed to the drop,” said Biñas.
There were only five theft cases last week, a decrease of 70.58 percent from 17 cases during the same period last year.
There were nine physical injury cases during the third week of October this year, down by 57.14 percent from 21 cases during the same period last year.
“Some 120 minors were rescued last week. I do believe that the strict enforcement of the 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew for minors greatly contributed to the reduction of criminality,” said Biñas.
The ICPO recorded a total of 61 crimes from Oct. 9 to 15 – lower by 38.38 percent from 99 crime incidents from Oct. 10 to 16, 2016.
“The decrease was due to enhanced patrol operations. We monitored the peculiarity of incidents per police station,” said ICPO operations chief Superintendent Jowel Saliba.
ICPO recorded zero incidents of homicide, rape, robbery, carnapping, and cattle rustling during the period.
There appeared to be a downtrend in crimes. The ICPO recorded a total of 68 crime incidents from Oct. 2 to 8, lower by 39.28 percent from the 112 crime incidents from Oct. 3 to 9, 2016.
“As always, the situation is manageable. We have not recorded big crimes,” said Saliba.
ICPO conducted three operations related to anti-illegal drugs on the first week of October. This resulted to the confiscation of four sachets of shabu and one white folder containing dried marijuana leaves.
“We can also attribute the decrease of crimes in Iloilo City to the aggressive campaign of our personnel, including maximized police visibility in places of convergence, and checkpoints,” said Saliba.
ICPO is conducting a weekly assessment with the commanders of six police stations to work out peace and order strategies.
