MANILA – Malacañang warned the public to remain vigilant after the arrest of Aminkisa Romato Macadato, alleged financier of the Maute group.
Macadato was caught in Valenzuela City. He was accused of backing the five-month war between government forces and the Islamic State-inspired local terrorist group in Marawi City.
He is the son of Ibrahim Macadato, former mayor of Butig, Lanao del Sur, and nephew of Farhana Maute, the Maute matriarch.
“Although the fighting in Marawi has ended, some Maute group supporters remain at large,” Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said on Wednesday.
Macadato was charged with violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act 9516, or an Act Further Amending the Provisions of Presidential Decree No. 1866 on the illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
On Monday the government declared an end to the war in Marawi after terrorist leaders Isnilon Hapilon, Omar Maute and Mahmud Ahmad, and 800 other IS-supporting militants were killed.
“We ask our people to continuously remain vigilant in their respective areas and cooperate with police and soldiers to hunt down all remaining terrorists and other lawless elements who are out to destroy the peace prevailing in our communities,” Abella said.
Meanwhile, the spokesman said the Duterte administration will invest “heavily” in infrastructure to ensure the immediate recovery and rehabilitation of the devastated southern city.
“We expect business and consumer confidence in Mindanao to pick up with the conclusion of the rebellion in Marawi,” Abella said.
“The rehabilitation of the Islamic city will contribute to peace-building efforts as economic opportunities open, including the restoration of livelihood for the Maranaos, so they can start rebuilding their lives,” he added./PN
