BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) revealed their safety and traffic measures for the observance of tigkalalag on Nov. 1 and 2 (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, respectively) in the city.
Bringing of bladed weapons and bottled drinks in public cemeteries is strictly prohibited, according to the BCPO.
BCPO spokesperson Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas said they will confiscate the items when seen inside public cemeteries along Burgos Street in barangays Granada and Handumanan.
Vargas said they have “no control” over private cemeteries.
Nonetheless, Vargas stressed that the BCPO will deploy security personnel in 12 public and private cemeteries across the city.
About 500 cops from the Regional Public Safety Battalion in Western Visayas, who remained in the city after the 38th MassKara Festival, will also help in guarding the celebration.
There will be police assistance desks in malls, seaports, airports, and bus terminals, too, according to Vargas.
The BCPO has also distributed flyers with safety tips.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, BTAO head, said they already have a traffic plan for the upcoming holiday.
Acebuche said the stretch from Burgos Street along Bacolod Public Cemetery to Ylac Street along Police Station 4 will be closed.
All vehicles from east going to Ylac Street must take a right turn to the 4th Street and take a left turn to Malaspina Street.
Vehicles from west going to Burgos Street, on the other hand, must take a right turn to Malaspina Street and another right turn to the 2nd Street.
A one-way traffic scheme will be observed on 2nd and 4th streets, said Acebuche.
Acebuche added that vehicles from east, upon reaching Bangga Escala in an area near Rolling Hills, must take a right turn due to Burgos Street’s closure.
The BTAO head said this year’s traffic plan for tigkalalag is the same as last year’s./PN
