KALIBO, Aklan – The Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) is upgrading its substation in Lezo, Aklan to meet the growing power needs in the province.
Akelco assistant general manager for engineering Joel Martnez said the old 5-Mega Volt Amp (MVA) power transformer of the Lezo substation will be replaced with a 15-MVA power transformer.
Currently, the 5-MVA Lezo substation serves electric consumers in municipalities of Malinao, Makato, Numancia, Lezo, and Tangalan.
It also supplies electricity to some portions of Madalag town.
Parts of Roxas Avenue, N. Roldan Street, J. Magno Street, Old Buswang, New Buswang, and Bliss Site will also soon be reconnected to the 15-MVA Lezo substation to relieve the load requirements of Andagao substation in this capital town.
“The load transfer to Lezo substation of some areas in Kalibo will ease the load growth of Andagao substation due to increasing number of big residential and commercial establishments in Aklan’s capital town,” Martinez said.
The 10-MVA Andagao substation supplies electricity to Banga, Kalibo, Libacao, and New Washington towns and portions of Madalag.
Martinez stressed that Akelco personnel are working round-the-clock to upgrade the Lezo substation.
Akelco is also trying to minimize power interruption during habagat and amihan seasons in the world-famous Boracay Island.
Martinez said preventive measures – like clearing operations – are conducted daily in the island.
Akelco is also upgrading the feeders with 25-kilovolt insulated wires that will address frequent power outage in the area. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
