THESE days “prayer rally” has become not only an abused word but an abused activity as well. From its original purpose as a religious and spiritual activity it has become a political tool.
“Prayer rallies” have become the weapon of choice of losers. Yup, those who just lost the elections and cannot accept it and government officials, particularly local government executives or LGEs that have been suspended or removed from office because of corruption or other violations of the law.
The Philippine Catholic Church headed by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines or CBCP has been using “prayer rallies” to try to remove duly-elected sitting presidents. They started with Ferdinand Marcos then Joseph Estrada but failed with Gloria Arroyo. Now the CBCP has started doing it to President Rodrigo Duterte.
There’s a saying “that when man scorns woman, she turns to God.” Now that saying has been modified and tailored fit by the losers into “when the people scorn the politician, they turn to God.”
The most well-known “prayer rally” is the one held by that group or cult, whichever you may want you call it, “El Shaddai” – this one is held regularly every Sunday, I believe at the Luneta Grandstand if I’m not mistaken. This “prayer rally” has always attracted thousands of people all with one motivation: “that God will grant their material want.”
This rally is basically a spiritual one and not political although they say its founder and main man Mike Velarde organized it to show off his outrageous outfits ala “Kuya Germs” of “That’s Entertainment.” The “El Shaddai” “prayer rally” draws politicians because of the thousands who attend so they have a captive crowd so to speak.
Lately, however, there’s a new kid in town, a new cult or “prayer rally” group whose ranks are made up mostly of has-been singers and actors, men with erectile dysfunction, priest and nuns and politicians who lost the last elections and they are the “Born Against”, specifically born against President Rodrigo Duterte.
One such example of using this so-called prayer rally for a political purpose is last Sunday’s event held at the EDSA Shrine. The organizer was, of course, the CBCP headed by outgoing president Archbishop Socrates Villegas, the original “born against.”
That “prayer rally” was billed as “Heal the Nation” which was ironic because President Duterte is trying to heal the nation after that nincompoop Noynoy Aquino with his gang of thieves ravaged the nation for six years by institutionalizing corruption through the unconstitutional Development Acceleration Program or DAP.
This “Heal the Nation” thingy was a poorly disguised attempt to rally the natives against President Duterte which as usual failed. It was at best a desperate moved by Socrates as he would be soon replaced as CBCP president by someone friendlier with President Duterte.
Socrates is desperate if he is no longer the president of CBCP; he loses his clout with the natives considering that after getting Philippine Airlines to finally pay the government the P6 billion it owes, President Duterte has his sights on Hacienda Luisita which owes the government P14.7 billion in unpaid taxes.
With Socrates no longer president of CBCP and Duterte is still President, who will protect poor Noynoy and Kris?
Ahay, even using the full force of the pulpit and threatening eternal damnation against President Duterte only brought a sparse crowd of about less than 2,000 naïve idiots who attended “Heal the Nation.”
This only means that the nation does not need Socrates’ brand of healing; they prefer Duterte’s brand.
Which brings us to the “born against” members of that “shabu white clad” group fighting against erectile dysfunction known as Tindig Pilipinas; their weapon of choice against Duterte is definitely “prayer rallies.”
Before Leila “frailties of a woman” de Lima was arrested on drug trafficking charges she was always seen kneeling “like a virgin” while attending mass usually officiated by Socrates, covered of course by mainstream media.
Lately Sen. Franklin Drilon appears to have experienced an epiphany as he is always seen in almost all religious activities.
And when Former World Mayor No. 5 Jed Mabilog became Fugitive No. 1 his people organized candlelight vigils and prayers for him, which of course was cancelled because nobody came.
What is it with these “born against”? Do they really think that the natives cannot see through their charade or perhaps they believe that they are really the “chosen people?”
