ILOILO – Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba is now a full-fledged police director of this province.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) approved the endorsement of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. who cited the police official’s good performance since June 18 when he replaced Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon as director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) but in an acting capacity.
“We are thankful to the higher command and to our governor for their trust,” said Tayaba.
Among Tayaba’s notable performances were the neutralization of drug lord Richard Prevendido in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City on Sept. 1, 2017 and the arrest of murder and drug suspect Arturo Balume Sr. in Negros Occidental.
“We have to do more to keep the province peaceful and orderly,” Tayaba told Panay News.
With the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency now spearheading the campaign against illegal drugs, Tayaba said his main thrusts were the arrest of fugitives, curbing loose firearms and neutralizing criminal gangs.
As a full-fledged police director, Tayaba could now relieve or transfer his men. He did not have this power as acting IPPO director.
Tayaba previously headed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Region 6. Prior to his IPPO assignment, he was posted at the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as Public Safety Battalion commander.
Tayaba also served the Iloilo City Police Office as chief of the Iloilo City Mobile Group.
His predecessor Tuzon was sacked from the IPPO after the New People’s Army raided the police station of Maasin town on June 18.
The PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero said Tuzon’s sacking was based on the “one-strike” policy of the Philippine National Police.
Under this policy, a municipal station raided by armed groups would result to the immediate relief of the police provincial director, he explained./PN
