ILOILO – On Nov. 27, the provincial government will once again be honored with a Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
This is the third successive year for the provincial government to bag the Seal.
SGLG is an incentive scheme in response to the public clamor for integrity and good performance in local government units (LGUs).
The awarding will be held in Metro Manila.
Two other Western Visayas provinces qualified for the Seal – Aklan and Negros Occidental.
In the municipal level, 15 LGUs from Iloilo province would be honored. These are Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, Bingawan, Carles, Dingle, Dueñas, Dumangas, Estancia, Mina, New Lucena, Oton, Pavia, Tubungan, and Zarraga, and the component city of Passi.
These LGUs excelled in three “core areas” and at least one “essential area”, according to DILG-Iloilo director Teodora Sumagaysay.
The core areas were financial administration, disaster preparedness and social protection, while the essential areas were business-friendliness and competitiveness, peace and order and environmental protection.
Sumagaysay challenged other LGUs to also do their best to bag the SGLG.
Winning LGUs can avail themselves of DILG’s Performance Challenge Fund, facilitation of loan approval through a Good Financial Housekeeping Certification, and other financing windows./PN
