ILOILO – A motorboat capsized in the waters of Bulobadiang Islet in Estancia town. All of its passengers – eight teenagers – were rescued.

According to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Iloilo commander Lieutenant Ramil Palabrica, strong winds and big waves tossed the boat that was from Barangay Talingling in nearby Carles town.

The capsizing happened around 4 p.m. on Nov. 8.

A concerned citizen, Leo Logronio, saw what happened and immediate alerted the coastguard’s substation in Estancia. A rescue team was deployed.

Around 4:40 p.m. rescuers reached the area. They found the teenagers clinging to the capsized boat.

The youngsters were transferred to rescue boat MBCA Hyacinth and the half-submerged motorboat was towed to the Estancia feeder port.
Rescuers brought the teenagers to the Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Balasan town for medical checkup.

The youngsters were Arriane Boromeo, 14 (Estancia); Charmaine Joy Hiasa, 16 (Estancia); Blessed Lyn Mianne (Carles), 16; Rozel de la Cruz, 17 (Estancia); Izzume Villanueva, 18 (Estancia); Rodel Gonzales, 16 (Carles); Justine Vegare, 15 (Carles); and Aira Barres, 17 (Carles).

They were island-hopping, according to Palabrica.

The northern Iloilo towns of Carles and Estancia have several islands and islets./PN
