ROXAS City – The Philippine Army has identified the three suspected New People’s Army rebels killed in an encounter in Cuartero, Capiz on Tuesday.
The suspected rebels belonged to the Nonito Aguirre Jr. Command – Partido Platoon East, said Lieutenant Colonel Sisenando Magbalot Jr., commander of the 61st Infantry Battalion (61IB). They were:
* Felizardo “Bong” Lumawod Cerilo of Barangay Pinay, Mambusao town
* Federico “Val” Pasco Diaz of Barangay Mahabang Sapa, Cuartero
* Remy Beraye of Barangay Baldoza, La Paz, Iloilo City
Their bodies were taken to a funeral home in Cuartero.
Scene of the crime operatives will perform a postmortem examination on them.
The military also found at the encounter site an ArmaLite rifle, an AK-47, a hand grenade, and assorted ammunition.
The encounter in Sitio Tigpaka Daku, Barangay San Antonio, Cuartero lasted for an hour starting 4 p.m. Soldiers from 61IB fought around 20 suspected rebels, the military said.
According to the Army, they received intelligence information that the rebels were demanding palay from the community.
Soldiers and officers from the police’s Public Safety Company have yet to complete the clearing operation in the area as of press time./PN
