BACOLOD City – The Department of Foreign Affairs will set up a passport courtesy lane for Negrense soldiers and policemen from Marawi City who will fly to Hong Kong for a vacation that President Rodrigo Duterte promised.
The Provincial Information Office of Negros Occidental confirmed this on Nov. 10, after the courtesy visit of Carolina Constantino, officer-in-charge of the Regional Consular Office-Bacolod, to Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.
The setting up of a courtesy lane means that the law enforcers no longer need to set an online appointment in applying for passport.
The President earlier promised that those who were deployed to Marawi City during the almost five-month siege will have an all-expense paid trip to Hong Kong as a reward.
In the province, there are 81 troopers from the 1st Division Reconnaissance Company of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division who were sent to Marawi.
The provincial government gave them a “welcome home” ceremony on Nov. 3, honoring them along with six other Negrense soldiers who died in battle.
Technical Sergeant Jose Lumayno of Sipalay City said he and his fellow troopers are proud to be called “liberators of Marawi.”
First Lieutenant Richard Paul Gobway – commander of the 31st Division Reconnaissance Company – said aside from conducting security clearing operations, their unit rescued four civilians trapped for almost a month in the main battlefield and recovered 11 high-powered firearms and two rifle grenades.
